(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The “Hatif-2,” launched on Friday, can travel up to 180 kilometers (111 miles).
Pakistan carried out nuclear tests in 1998 just days after rival India launched its own tests. The two countries, that have fought three wars against each other since 1947, regularly carry out missile tests in a display of their military prowess.
Pakistan had previously test-fired a medium-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile called “Ghauri Hatif 5” on December 2010. The missile, which is part of Pakistan's Integrated Missile Research and Development Program, can travel up to 1,300 km (800 miles).
Pakistani authorities have frequently reiterated that nuclear deterrence is the basis of the country's security policy and they have no intention of using the missiles aggressively.
Pakistan's missile test comes as India flight-tested an interceptor missile on March 6, claiming to have joined the United States and Russia, which have already mastered the technology.
